President's Message January 2014
Dear Sisters,
1. Chapter Website: Ellen has been working hard on our chapter website, and it looks great and has a lot of great info on it! Go check it out please. http://sarasotasai.weebly.com/ If you have any info, announcements, or photos you'd like to add to it, please contact Ellen at [email protected].
2. Pat Stenberg memorial concert is fast approaching! Alice has ordered the tickets and will distribute them at the next chapter meeting. If you'd like them sooner or won't be at the next chapter meeting, please contact Alice at [email protected] to arrange pickup. You may go ahead and send your ticket money as soon as possible to our treasurer: Susan Bylerly 3885 Woodmere Park Blvd. #16 Venice, FL 34293. For those of you who are new, we each try to buy or sell a minimum of 8 tickets. We sell them at $10 each or if we buy them ourselves pay $8 each (so 8 tickets at $8 each adds up to $64 total). If you are not able to buy or sell that many, it's okay - no pressure. :-) We just make it our goal. Of course you may buy or sell as many as you like - the more the better! If you need more than 8 tickets, please contact Alice.
Thanks Ladies! I look forward to seeing you in February!
Roses,
Stephanie Daige

Please note location changes of the Feb 8 & April 13 Meetings!!!
Sisters,
A great way to end one year and start the next is to attend some of the FREE Perlman Music Program master classes and rehearsals, featuring wonderful young musicians from around the world. Because of our SAI donation, we have one seat available in a reserved section. There are lots of other seats, all within excellent hearing distance. For some it would mean BYOP (Bring Your Own Pillow). The reserved seats have foam pads. The tent at USF Sarasota Manatee was jacket-warm on a 50 degree day. The music was divine!
For more on this wonderful opportunity for next year, please talk to Barbara Staton. She'll be happy to fill you in!

VIVIAN'S QUILT update
This wonderful work of art created by Vivian Eckert
will be raffled at the February meeting
Robert Aitken, SAI Distinguished Member and one of the world’s foremost flute players will be in town soloing with the Venice Symphony.
While he is here, he is slated to hold a master class at Braden River HS (the #1 Band program in the state) to work with their top 10 flutists on February 19th at 11:30 am.
New member Linda Keefe is asking our chapter to sponser that engagement with a small honorarium. Individuals sisters are invited to contribute. Please send checks made out to SAI to treasurer Susan Byerly by February 10. Many thanks!
Mr. Aitken donated five days of his time to the Eastman School of Music and generated $3700 in scholarship money for the SAI chapters there in 1983, at which time he was made a National Arts Associate.

This follow-up from Barbara Staton:
"What an honor to have Robert Aitkin right here working with our students in Braden River High School! He recorded with Merrill and me in our studio for the Music & You textbook series, and he is not only a world class flutist but also a very nice person."
